CBT 1 — Computer Based Test (Common screening for both grades)

Same paper for both Grade III and Grade I (Signal) candidates. Used purely to shortlist for CBT 2 — marks are normalised across shifts. Section weightage is roughly Math 25 + Reasoning 25 + GS 40 + GA 10.
CBT 2 (Grade III) — Part A + Part B

Part B is qualifying — minimum 35% required (30% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwBD as per relaxation). Final merit is decided on Part A score only; Part B only needs to be cleared.
CBT 2 (Grade I Signal) — Single disciplinary paper

Unlike Grade III, the Grade I Signal CBT 2 has no Part A / Part B split — the entire paper is disciplinary Signal & Telecom engineering at 10+2 / Diploma level.

Grade III is typically classified as medical category C-1 / C-2 (depending on department). Grade I (Signal) is B-1 / B-2 — stricter eyesight standards because signalling work is safety-critical.
