JEE Main Eligibility 2026
Who can apply for JEE Main in 2026 — the age limit, educational qualification, nationality and attempt rules as specified by JEE Main is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) — an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education. Always confirm against the official notification before applying.
JEE Main — eligibility to appear
- Age
- No age limit to appear for JEE Main. (Admitting institutes may apply their own age norms at counselling.)
- Education
- Candidates who passed Class 12 / equivalent in 2024 or 2025, or who are appearing in 2026, are eligible. There is no minimum percentage required merely to appear in JEE Main.
- Nationality
- Indian nationals; OCI/PIO and foreign nationals may appear subject to the rules in the Information Bulletin (seat eligibility and quotas are decided at counselling).
- Attempts
- JEE Main can be attempted in 3 consecutive years (2 sessions per year).
JEE Main — admission criteria (NITs/IIITs/CFTIs via JoSAA)
- Age
- Age norms applied at counselling are set by the admitting institute / JoSAA; refer to that year's JoSAA business rules.
- Education
- For admission to NITs / IIITs / CFTIs through JoSAA, a candidate needs 75% aggregate in Class 12 (65% for SC/ST) OR be in the top 20 percentile of their board's Class 12 results.
- Nationality
- As per the JoSAA business rules of the year.
- Attempts
- Subject to the eligibility-to-appear rules above.
