Ensures fail-safe signalling for train movement and safety; higher responsibility than Grade III because of the degree/diploma qualification.
Skilled hands-on maintenance, repair and fitting work in the assigned department and trade. Examples: Fitter/Mechanical - repair and overhaul of coaches, wagons, locomotives and rolling stock; Electrical/TRS/EMU - maintenance of traction, EMU/coach electricals, overhead equipment; Diesel - diesel loco and shed maintenance; Track Machine/Blacksmith/Welder/Bridge - permanent-way and structural maintenance in Engineering. Work is carried out in sheds, depots, workshops (PU & WS) and on the field, often in shifts.
